Fire Occurs at Mediterania Apartment in Tanjung Duren, West Jakarta

JAKARTA - A fire hit the Mediterranean Apartment located in Tanjung Duren, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta (Jakbar), Thursday morning.

ANTARA's monitoring at the location at 09.00 WIB, smoke came out of the second floor of one of the apartment building.

The residents and workers of the apartment were also crowded around the area when the fire occurred.

A number of Damkar officers who happened to be in the office in front of the apartment immediately carried out the blackout and evacuated the trapped residents.

One of the employees of the apartment named Abdul said the fire occurred at around 07.15 WIB.

"So, we started to enter at 07.00 WIB, then it happened at 07.15 WIB," said Abdul to ANTARA at the Mediterania Apartment, Tanjung Duren, West Jakarta, Thursday morning.

He said when the fire occurred, the apartment residents spontaneously rushed out to evacuate themselves.

"So, on the run, everyone, the evacuation was the same as Damkar," said Abdul.

While carrying out the blackout, a vacuum cleaner was also operated by the officers.

The fire that occurred on one side of the building apparently made the smoke spread to other buildings.

This also trapped some residents so that they were still in the process of being evacuated by officers.

As of 09.30 WIB, smoke was still billowing from the second floor of one of the apartment buildings.
