JAKARTA - PT KAI continues to update the number of fatalities in a train accident in the area of East Bekasi Station, Bekasi City, West Java. Until now, the death toll has reached seven people.
This was conveyed by the President Director of PT KAI, Bobby Rasyidin, in a press statement at Bekasi Timur Station, Tuesday, April 28. "The current update, the number of victims who died is seven people, 81 people were injured," he said.
Bobby explained that all the injured victims had been evacuated and received medical treatment at nine hospitals in the Bekasi area. Some of them, namely Primaya Bekasi Hospital, Bekasi City Hospital, Bella Bekasi Hospital, and Mitra Keluarga Hospital.
As an emergency response step, PT KAI has established a post in the area of East Bekasi Station. This post serves to coordinate the handling of victims, provide information to the families of passengers, and support the evacuation process and recovery of train travel operations.
Previously, KAI Public Relations Manager for Jakarta Railway Station 1 Franoto Wibowo explained the chronology of the initial accident. The incident began when a taxi hit the KRL on the direct crossing line (JPL) in the Bulak Kapal area, Bekasi.
As a result of the collision, the KRL series stopped on the track. The accident, from behind, drove the Argo Bromo Train on the same track and finally hit the KRL which was stopping.
"Initially, there was a taxi that hit the KRL at the crossing near Bulak Kapal, so the train stopped. Then, behind it, the Argo Bromo train sped up, which eventually hit the KRL train set," said Franoto.
The train accident in East Bekasi is a serious concern because it is triggered by a series of consecutive incidents, ranging from accidents at a piece of land to collisions between trains. Until now, the process of evacuating victims and investigating the exact cause of the accident is still being carried out by the parties concerned.
