JAKARTA - The Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) for Public Communication and Nanik Investigation, Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, revealed Vice President Gibran Rakabuming's direction regarding strengthening the aspect of food security in the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program.
"I was just called by the Vice President to discuss food security," said Nanik in Jakarta, Monday, April 27.
At the meeting, Gibran emphasized the importance of maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the MBG kitchen or Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG), especially in the management of food waste.
"Mr. Gibran warned that leftover food should not enter the kitchen, because these leftovers have the potential to be one of the sources of disease," said Nanik.
As a preventive measure, the process of cleaning food waste is requested to be carried out outside the kitchen to avoid cross-contamination.
"He advised that the food leftovers be cleaned outside the kitchen," he added.
The directive is part of efforts to strengthen food safety standards in the implementation of the MBG program so that the food served remains safe and of good quality for the community.
Nanik also assessed Gibran's background as a catering entrepreneur made him understand in detail the kitchen's standard operating procedures.
"As a former entrepreneur in the catering industry, the vice president understands the SOP of the kitchen flow and critical things in terms of food safety," he said.
In addition, Gibran also encouraged the acceleration of the MBG program, especially in the lagging, leading, and outermost regions (3T). This is based on the results of visits to a number of areas in Papua that still lack SPPG kitchen facilities.
To accelerate development, BGN is encouraged to involve state-owned enterprises (SOEs) through the corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme.
"It is better for our 3T areas to involve SOEs, from their CSR they can build kitchens, so that it does not have to come from the state budget to build kitchens or SPPG," concluded Nanik.
