JAKARTA - The head of foreign policy of the European Union (EU) Kaja Kallas prefers to comment on the US-Israeli war against Iran than the extension of the three-week Israeli-Lebanese ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump.
Speaking at a meeting of EU leaders in Cyprus, Kallas claimed the threat from Iran was "more dangerous" if nuclear experts were not involved in US-Iranian peace talks.
"If the talks are only about (the) nuclear (program) and there are no nuclear experts at the negotiating table, then we will end up with a weaker agreement than the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action)," Kallas was quoted as saying by the BBC, Friday, April 24.
The JCPOA is an Iranian nuclear deal agreed in 2015 when the US was led by Barack Obama, which was later removed when Trump became the first US President.
Under the JCPOA, Iran agreed to limit its sensitive nuclear activities and allow international inspectors into the country in return for the lifting of economic sanctions.
"And (if) the problems in this region, the missile program, their support for proxy groups, as well as hybrid and cyber activities in Europe are not addressed, we will end up with a more dangerous Iran," Kallas said.
