JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump revealed that Lebanon and Israel extended the ceasefire in Lebanon for three weeks after a high-level meeting at the White House.

Trump hosted Israel's ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, and Lebanon's ambassador to the US, Nada Moawad, in the Oval Office, White House, Thursday, April 23 local time.

The meeting was the second round of US-brokered ceasefire negotiations in Lebanon, a day after Israeli strikes killed at least five people including a journalist.

"The meeting went very well! The United States will work with Lebanon to help it protect itself from Hezbollah," Trump wrote on Truth Social, quoted by Reuters, Friday, April 24 WIB.

Hezbollah, the armed group allied with Iran fighting Israeli aggression, was not present at the second round of negotiations. Hezbollah said it had "the right to fight" the occupation forces.

Trump hopes to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in the near future.

Trump also spoke to reporters in the Oval Office with meeting participants, saying he hoped the leaders would meet during a three-week truce. He said there was a "great opportunity" for the two countries to reach a peace deal this year.

Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, and US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa also attended the meeting.
