JAKARTA - Traffic Police (Polantas) arrested a sharp-armed beggar in the Rawa Buaya Toll exit area, Cengkareng, West Jakarta (Jakbar).

Kanit Lantas of the Cengkareng Police, AKP Yeni, said the robbery incident occurred on Wednesday (22/4) at around 09.30 WIB.

"So, the incident happened at 09.30 WIB, at the toll exit, near the Lokbin Rawa Buaya Market. There were two perpetrators, one was arrested, the other one fled," said Yeni, quoting ANTARA, Thursday.

Initially, he said, the two perpetrators rode together to the scene, which was where the victim was repairing the truck's wheels.

"So, they are approaching the victim, pretending to ask for the address, even though they want to kidnap," said Yeni.

One of the perpetrators suddenly snatched the victim's cellphone, took out a sharp weapon and swung it towards the victim.

"The victims were injured in their thighs. They (the perpetrators) used celurit," said Yeni.

There was a commotion at the location of the robbery because the incident was witnessed by residents around. The two perpetrators were in a fog, and one of them fled on his motorcycle, while the other perpetrator tried to escape by running.

However, even though the victim's phone had been seized by the perpetrator, residents reacted quickly.

After threatening residents with a machete, the perpetrator was arrested, stripped naked, and mobbed.

Yeni said that the report of the incident was then received by his party. A number of Lantas members were also deployed to the location to secure the perpetrator.

"If he confesses, he did it to feed his children. Now, he has been secured at the Cengkareng Police," concluded Yeni.

Until now, the case is still being handled by the Cengkareng Police Criminal Investigation Unit for further investigation.
