Government Prepares Four System Models to Strengthen Inclusive Education

JAKARTA - The Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu'ti, emphasized the government's major steps in strengthening inclusive education.

In the midst of launching the 2026 inclusive education training program at SMPN 16 Jakarta, Monday, April 20, he emphasized that access to education is a constitutional mandate that cannot be negotiated.

"Providing quality education services for all is our constitutional responsibility, including for children with special needs," said Abdul Mu'ti.

One of the biggest challenges highlighted is the negative stigma. To date, there is still a misconception in the community that the condition of special needs is a curse or a shameful thing.

Abdul Mu'ti invited the public to change this mindset. For him, providing education for them is a form of glory and humanity, not a social burden.

To answer the challenges of limited teachers and facilities, the government encourages the development of schools with four main system models. First, intellectual, namely adjusting the learning method according to the ability of students.

Second, physical. Disability-friendly and easily accessible school facilities. Third, the economy by ensuring that services reach all levels of society. Fourth, social, namely building interaction without barriers between students.

The government acknowledges that the number of special teaching assistants is currently not ideal. Therefore, this 2026 training program is focused on increasing the capacity of teachers in regular schools so that they are able to accompany inclusive students.

In addition, strategically increase the number of experts and make the classroom a real social integration platform for the diversity of Indonesian children. With this step, schools are expected not only to be places of academic learning, but also safe spaces for every child to achieve a future without discrimination.
