BADUNG - The Badung Police, Bali, revealed a case of alleged embezzlement of a MacBook Pro with a cash on delivery (COD) payment method involving a foreign citizen (WNA) from the United States (US) in the Canggu area, North Kuta.

Acting Sub-Head of Public Relations Section of Badung Police, Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, said the perpetrator was a man with the initials AHAAS (29).

"The perpetrator was secured by the team of Unit 2 of the Badung Police Criminal Investigation Unit after allegedly committing the crime of embezzlement as referred to in Article 486 of the Criminal Code," said Ayu, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, April 20.

Ayu explained that the incident occurred on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at around 19.40 Wita at a villa on Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong, Canggu.

The case began when the complainant, Putri Ramadani, together with a witness delivered an order consisting of one unit of the M5 type 14-inch MacBook Pro and one unit of the iPhone 17 Pro Max 512 GB to the perpetrator's address.

Both items were ordered via WhatsApp with a COD payment method with a total value of IDR 58.24 million.

When the goods were handed over in a sealed condition, the perpetrator checked and stated that the order was correct.

However, the perpetrator then took the two units to the second floor on the pretext of taking cash.

"The witness had reprimanded because the goods were brought before the payment was made, but the perpetrator did not pay attention and instead ran to the second floor," he said.

When the witness arrived, the perpetrator was no longer at the location. The second floor door was closed and the lights were off, while the window was found open, allegedly being the perpetrator's escape route.

Due to this incident, the victim from the company PT Cellular World Indonesia suffered a loss of IDR 58,248,000.

Following up on the report, the police conducted an investigation at the scene and found that the vehicle allegedly used by the perpetrator had returned to the villa where he was staying. The officers then carried out a seizure.

"The perpetrator had resisted when asked to get out of the vehicle, so the officers took security measures to prevent the person concerned from escaping or endangering the area," said Ayu Inastuti.

During the examination, the perpetrator admitted ordering the goods, but insisted on making a cash payment even though he could not show proof. He also admitted taking the goods to the second floor and jumping through the window to the car that had been prepared.

The police also secured evidence in the form of one unit of iPhone 17 Pro Max 512 GB and one unit of MacBook Pro 14 inch M5 type which is still in the box.

Currently, the perpetrator has been named a suspect and is being held at the Badung Police to undergo further legal proceedings.
