Heavy Rain Potentially Occur in Java to Papua Sunday Afternoon

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) urges the public to be on alert for the potential for heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by lightning in a number of regions in Indonesia on Sunday, April 12.

BMKG Praktirawan Ina Indah explained that the potential for quite significant weather in several of these areas is influenced by atmospheric dynamics.

"The readiness for potential heavy to very heavy rain in the Lampung, West Java, Central Java, and West Papua regions needs to be improved," said Ina, quoted by Antara, Sunday morning.

More specifically for the western region of Indonesia, BMKG asks the public to be aware of the potential for rain accompanied by lightning in Tanjung Pinang (Kepulauan Riau), Palembang (North Sumatra), Bandar Lampung, Yogyakarta, and Tanjung Selor (North Kalimantan).

Furthermore, he continued, the potential for moderate intensity rain in the western region is predicted to rain on the Serang (Banten) area.

Meanwhile, said Ina, light rain has the potential to wet most of Sumatra, Jakarta, Bandung (West Java), Semarang (Central Java), and most of Kalimantan.

"Cloudy weather in the western part of Indonesia is expected to cover Surabaya, and there is a potential for hazy air in the Banda Aceh area," he said.

Shifting to the eastern part of Indonesia, BMKG predicts the potential for light-scale rain in Mataram (NTB), most of Sulawesi, Ternate (North Maluku), Ambon (Maluku), and most of Papua.

For the potential of sunny cloudy to cloudy weather, said Ina, it is estimated to cover the areas of Kupang (NTT), Denpasar (Bali), Manado (North Sulawesi), Makassar (South Sulawesi), and Nabire (Central Papua).
