Minister of Finance Purbaya Says There Will Be an UMKM Bank, an Electric Motor Incentive Option, and a Legal Route for Illegal Cigarettes

Jakarta - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said that the government is currently processing the establishment of a special bank for MSMEs. This was conveyed by Menkeu Purbaya at the Attorney General's Office, Jakarta, Friday, April 10.

For the MSME sector, Purbaya said the Ministry of Finance is looking for ways to take over PNM so that KUR distribution can be carried out through the institution. The ultimate goal is to build an MSME bank that is truly focused on financing small businesses.

According to Purbaya, this bank model will not be made like a regular commercial bank that pursues the highest possible profit. According to him, the institution must remain healthy, but not burden MSMEs with suffocating interest rates. What is pursued is sustainable financing and really helping small business actors.

In the electric vehicle sector, Purbaya said the government was also still discussing the possibility of new incentives for electric motorcycles. He admitted that he would discuss this further with the Minister of Industry.

Meanwhile, for electric cars, discussions are still ongoing after discussing with Gaikindo.

Regarding illegal cigarettes. Purbaya revealed that the legalization proposal has been completed and will be discussed with the DPR in the near future.

The scheme is not to let illegal cigarettes remain wild in the market, but to force the product to enter the legal channel by paying certain taxes. Minister of Finance Purbaya hopes that the scheme can start running at the latest in May.
