JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung targets the reactivation of the KRL line from Rawajati to Tanjung Priok to be realized this year. The line is an old track that will be converted to an electric-based one.

This plan is said to have been discussed with the President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia and received direct instructions from President Prabowo Subianto.

Pramono explained that the line that would be activated was not a new construction, but the optimization of existing rails that had not been used to the maximum.

Later, the line will cross the Old City area to Tanjung Priok, including being connected to the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) area.

"Hopefully this year it can be completed, more or less the old track but made electric, (so) the one who has never been used (from Rawajati) through the Old City, then to Tanjung Priok and so on, through JIS and so on," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Thursday, April 9.

In the initial phase, the length of the track is estimated to be around 16 kilometers. Meanwhile, in the next phase it will be expanded to around 28 kilometers.

"This is not a new development, but the use of non-electric trains to electricity. And it will significantly change about transportation in the north," he explained.

The DKI Provincial Government has also begun to prepare a concept for the development of transit-oriented development (TOD) based areas, especially in the Old City area. The integration of transportation modes is the focus so that citizen mobility is easier.

"From now on, TOD for Old Town has been prepared by us, including ease of transportation. So later there will be besides MRT, KRL that uses electricity," said Peamono.

Apart from the main line, Pramono said the Commuter Line KRL Station, which is directly connected to JIS, is also targeted to be completed in the near future. The presence of this line is expected to facilitate public access, especially during major events at the stadium.

"So, June is a birthday gift for Jakarta, people who will watch it at JIS will be much easier," he added.
