5 People Were Seriously Injured and 100 Households Affected by the M 4.7 Earthquake that Hit East Flores

JAKARTA - A magnitude 4.7 earthquake shook the East Flores Regency area, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Wednesday night, April 8, 2026. As a result, dozens of people were affected and dozens of people were reported injured.

Information from the National Disaster Management Agency said the earthquake occurred at 23.12 WIB with the center on land, about 21 kilometers southeast of Larantuka, at a depth of 5 kilometers.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, explained that the shaking was felt quite strongly by residents around the affected location.

"At the time of the earthquake, the residents felt strong tremors for 2 to 4 seconds," said Abdul Muhari in his testimony, Thursday, April 9.

The affected area is in Terong Village, East Adonara District. Until the provisional report on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 11.00 WIB, it was recorded that five residents suffered serious injuries and 10 others suffered minor injuries.

In addition to the injured victims, about 100 families were affected by the incident. Emergency handling was immediately carried out by the East Flores Regency Disaster Management Agency which was at the scene.

Officers are conducting data collection, monitoring the impact of the earthquake, and setting up evacuation tents. Distribution of assistance has also begun to meet the basic needs of affected residents.

"BNPB continues to monitor and coordinate with the local BPBD to carry out quick, appropriate, and accurate handling steps," said Abdul Muhari.

In the midst of this situation, BNPB appealed to the public to remain vigilant against the potential of aftershocks. "BNPB appeals for residents to remain calm. Residents immediately take shelter if the earthquake occurs again and head to an open field. In addition, the public is asked to always follow the directions and information from authorized officers," he added.
