KUDUS - Kudus Regent Sam'ani Intakoris has instructed all State Civil Servants (ASN) in the Kudus Regency Government, Central Java, to switch to environmentally friendly modes of transportation.
Starting next week, state officials are required to use bicycles or non-fossil fuel vehicles every Tuesday, April 7, 2026, as a concrete step to save energy and budget efficiency.
This policy is prioritized for employees whose domicile is within a radius close to the work location.
"This policy is intended for ASN who have a residence distance of less than 5 kilometers from the office. In addition to bicycles, ASN is also encouraged to use other environmentally friendly transportation," said Sam'ani as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, April 9, 2026.
In addition to the cycling movement, the Kudus Regency Government has also tightened the use of regional assets by limiting the operational vehicles of the official position to a maximum of 50 percent.
ASN is encouraged to start using electric vehicles or public transportation. This step is referred to as a follow-up to the central and provincial government's directions to reduce the burden on regional spending.
"This is in line with the central government's policy through the Governor for efficiency. We will start using bicycles on Tuesday," he said.
Sam'ani targets this policy to be able to have a significant impact on the structure of the district government's operational expenditures, ranging from official travel costs to office electricity bills.
"We want there to be savings, at least 20 to 25 percent. Later we will see from the Travel Order (SPPD), fuel, and electricity must go down," said Sam'ani.
Although he is encouraging efficiency, the Regent reminded that work productivity should not shrink. He warned the employees to maintain discipline and not just perform attendance formalities without working in a tangible way.
"Don't let it be lazy, come absent, go, then go home just to be absent again. It must be well coordinated and there must be no complaints from the community," he said.
Sam'ani asked all ASN to continue to provide the best dedication in serving the public even though there are adjustments to the lifestyle of working.
"Serve the community with a full heart. While given the opportunity, do your best for the community," he concluded.
