JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump reacted harshly to journalistic performance by attacking CNN journalists after the announcement of the US-Iran ceasefire on Tuesday night, April 8 local time.
"The statement allegedly made by CNN World News is a SCAM, as CNN knows," Trump said in his post on the social media Truth Social.
Trump then accused CNN, which is headquartered in the US, of making a report titled "Iran claims victory, saying it has forced the US to accept a 10-point plan" sourced from Nigeria.
"The false statement was attributed to a Fake News site (from Nigeria) and, of course, was immediately picked up by CNN, and broadcast as a 'legitimate' headline," he continued.
Again, Trump threatened journalists if the news that was shown to the public did not suit the wishes of the 45th and 47th US presidents.
"Authorities are working to determine whether a crime has been committed in the issuance of the CNN World Fake Statement," Trump said.
"Or is it the work of a sick, evil player?" he continued.
The White House also spoke up with CNN's report. "This statement allegedly by 'Iran' is a SCAM! Fix it immediately!" wrote the White House Rapid Response account on its X account.
Separately, according to Newsweek, CNN through its spokesperson explained via email that "the statement in question was obtained by CNN from Iranian officials and reported in several Iranian government media. We received the statement from a certain official Iranian spokesperson whom we know."
The statement referred to by CNN was likely issued by the Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran, an agency with higher authority than the country's Foreign Minister.
Trump announced a ceasefire deal with Iran less than two hours after the US President's threat to destroy "the entire civilization" in Iran if the Strait of Hormuz was not opened by 20.00 Tuesday local time.
In his threat, Trump warned that Iran could be "destroyed" in one night. The US head of state also warned that "every bridge" and "every power plant" in Iran would be destroyed if Iran did not meet US demands within the deadline set.
