JAKARTA - The Republic of Indonesia Warship (KRI) Alamang-644 which is part of the BKO Guskamla Koarmada I element in Operation Cakra Wira-26 managed to thwart the theft of granite stones in the waters of the Gelam Strait, Karimun, Riau Islands.

The commander of KRI Alamang-644, Lieutenant Colonel (P) Rudi Sulistiyanto, said this success began when his party identified a TB SOL 1006 ship with the Indonesian flag, which was passing with a load of granite from Tanjung Balai Karimun to Singapore, Thursday (2/4) night.

"At 19.30 WIB, KRI Alamang-644 received information via radio that there was a suspicious ship attached to the TK BAC 2302 barge towed by TB SOL 1006," Rudi said in his statement, Sunday.

The ship, he said, was suspected of stealing granite cargo at sea at the coordinates that had been reported.

Following up on the information, KRI Alamang-644 immediately moved to the location to carry out checks and arrived at around 19.50 WIB.

Then, KRI Alamang-644 carried out visual identification and found a small boat on the left hull of the TK BAC 2302 barge.

Furthermore, a pursuit, arrest, and investigation were carried out against the suspected ship.

At 20.20 WIB, the team managed to secure the ship in question and carried out further inspections.

"The results of the examination revealed that the ship was the KM Melina with a load of granite, without official documents, and evidence was found on board," he said.

Rudi continued that the ship, which was manned by five people, was suspected of stealing granite cargo at sea.

KM Melina and all the ship's crew (ABK) have been secured at the Tanjung Balai Karimun TNI AL Base (Lanal) for further investigation.
