Light Rain is Predicted to Flood Most of Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that most of Indonesia has the potential for light rain on Sunday, March 29.

Quoting Antara, BMKG weather practitioner Lintang Alya said that the potential for light rain was in Banda Aceh, Medan (North Sumatra), Padang (West Sumatra), Tanjung Pinang (Riau Islands), Jambi, Bengkulu, Palembang (South Sumatra), Pangkal Pinang (Bangka Belitung Islands), Jakarta, Serang (Banten), Semarang (Central Java), Yogyakarta, Pontianak (West Kalimantan), Tanjung Selor (North Kalimantan), Samarinda (East Kalimantan), and Palangka Raya (Central Kalimantan).

Then, he said, there was the potential for light rain in Denpasar (Bali), Mataram (West Nusa Tenggara), Makassar (South Sulawesi), Mamuju (West Sulawesi), Kendari (South Sulawesi), Gorontalo, Manado (North Sulawesi), Sorong (South West Papua), Manokwari (West Papua), Nabire (Central Papua), Jayapura (Papua), and Jayawijaya (Papua Mountains).

He also reminded to increase preparedness for potential heavy to very heavy rain in the Banten, West Java, Central Java, and East Java regions.

"For western Indonesia, be aware that there is the potential for lightning in Bandar Lampung and Banjarmasin. Meanwhile, moderate rain in Pekanbaru, Bandung, and Surabaya," he said.

"Meanwhile, for the eastern part of Indonesia, be aware that there is the potential for lightning in Merauke, moderate rain in Ambon," said Lintang Arya.

He also highlighted the potential for cloudy and thick clouds in Kupang and Ternate.
