JAKARTA - A joint SAR team has carried out a search operation for a 35-year-old man who allegedly jumped into the sea from the Barelang Five Bridge, Batam City, Riau Islands (Kepri).
Head of the Tanjungpinang SAR Office Fazzli said that information about this dangerous incident was received from the Galang Sector Police (Polsek) on Monday afternoon.
"The victim is known as Nusyirwan, is still being searched by the joint SAR team," said Fazzli in his statement as reported by ANTARA, Monday, March 23.
Fazzli explained that based on the initial statement from an eyewitness named Adi who was fishing around the scene, the incident began around 10:00 WIB.
The witness admitted that he heard a loud bang when the object fell into the water and when he checked the source of the sound, he saw the victim wearing a black shirt who had been swept away by the sea current.
"From the incident, specifically on the bridge, a number of evidence was found that was left behind, namely a SIM card and a motorcycle unit of the type matic, suspected to belong to the victim," said Fazzli.
Fazzli said the Tanjungpinang SAR Office had deployed a team from the Batam SAR Post to the location of the incident at 12:10 WIB using an operational vehicle Rescue Car Type II.
The rescue team was also equipped with rubber boats, underwater detection equipment, aquaeye, communication equipment, and emergency medical evacuation equipment to conduct a search at the scene.
The first day of the SAR operation was supported by the synergy of various SAR potential elements in the Batam area and its surroundings, ranging from the Kepri Police Polairud Directorate, Satpolair Polresta Barelang, Galang Police, Galang TNI AL Post, Amateur Radio Indonesia Organization, as well as assistance from local fishermen.
"The screening process is carried out by monitoring the weather conditions of the waters," said Fazzli.
