JAKARTA - A member of the Traffic Directorate of the Metro Jaya Police, Brigadier General Fajar Permana, was killed while carrying out his duty to escort the smooth flow of the 2026 Lebaran homecoming.
"The deceased is suspected of having experienced extraordinary physical exhaustion (exhaustion) and respiratory disorders, after standing guard at community service points tirelessly," said Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto in his statement quoted by Antara, Monday, March 23.
Budi also conveyed his deepest condolences for the late's departure.
According to him, the dedication of Brigadier General Fajar Permana during Operation Ketupat 2026 is a real reflection of the spirit of dedication of the people of the Police who are willing to put aside personal interests to ensure that millions of travelers can get to their hometowns safely and comfortably.
"We are very lost in the figure of a young Bhayangkara who is highly dedicated like the late Brigadier Fajar Permana. He breathed his last after carrying out the state's mandate. The provisional suspicion is that the deceased's physical condition has drastically declined due to exhaustion after working marathons in the field to serve the community," he said.
Budi also ensured that he would give the last respects and fulfill all the rights of the deceased and provide compensation for the families left behind.
"This incident is a serious attention for the leadership to continue to evaluate and monitor the health conditions of personnel who are still on duty in the field so that similar incidents do not recur," he said.
As a preventive measure, the Head of the Metro Jaya Police, Inspector General of Police Asep Edi Suheri, has instructed the Medical and Health Section (Biddokkes) to be more proactive in conducting routine health checks at security posts.
Budi also said that this step was taken to ensure that each member remained in excellent condition amid the high operational duty tension during the Lebaran homecoming and return.
"The Police Chief has ordered the Dokkes ranks to comb the health of members in the field. We ask for prayers from all people that the late Brigadier General Fajar Permana will get the best place by his side and the family left behind will be given fortitude in facing this ordeal," added Budi.
