Ministry of Transportation Data: 10 Million People Traveling Home for Eid with Public Transportation

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has recorded that 10,003,583 people have carried out the Lebaran 1447 Hijriah homecoming using public transportation during H-8 (March 13, 2026) to H-1 (March 20, 2026) based on data from the 2026 Integrated Lebaran Transportation Center Post.

"The cumulative movement of public transportation passengers, from H-8 to H-1 Lebaran, has reached 10,003,583 people, this shows an increase of 9.23 percent compared to the Lebaran 2025 transportation of 9,158,315 people," said Head of the Public Communication and Information Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation, Ernita Titis Dewi, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, March 21.

He detailed the cumulative distribution by mode, including 2,981,945 people by rail, up 13.22 percent from the previous year's 2,633,878 people; air transport of 2,190,282 people, up 3.05 percent from the previous year's 2,125,523 people.

Then the crossing was 2,482,303 people, up 14.78 percent from the previous year's 2,162,708 people; and land transport was 1,587,060 people, up 9.18 percent from the previous year's 1,453,679 people; and sea transport was 761,993 people.

In addition to passenger movements, vehicle traffic is also monitored at a number of transportation nodes. On H-1, vehicles leaving the Jakarta Toll Gate were recorded as many as 117,016 units, while the number of vehicles entering reached 66,210 units.

The total movement of vehicles in and out of the Jabodetabek Toll Gate was recorded as 248,349 units, and at the Non-Jabodetabek Toll Gate as 236,758 units.

On the arterial road, the vehicles that came out of Jabodetabek were recorded as 474,454 units, and the incoming ones were 360,479 units. Meanwhile, the movement of vehicles on the Non-Jabodetabek arterial road reached 491,901 units.

He said that the implementation of the 2026 Eid transport referred to the Minister of Transportation's Decree Number KM 59 of 2026 concerning the Coordination Team for the Implementation of Integrated Eid Transport in 2026 (1447 H), with operational management that continues to be monitored in an integrated manner.

Based on daily data, the movement of departure of public transportation passengers on H-1 (March 20, 2026) reached 915,635 people, spread across all modes of transportation, with details of 302,823 people, consisting of 178,006 intercity passengers and 124,817 regional urban passengers;

Then air transportation was 207,261 people, consisting of 161,598 domestic passengers and 45,663 international passengers; sea transportation was 54,693 people; crossings were 189,804 people; land transportation was 161,054 people, consisting of 145,340 bus passengers and 15,714 travel passengers.

The Ministry of Transportation also noted the on-time performance (on time performance/OTP) of public transportation on H-1, including intercity railways 98.20 percent; regional railways 98.90 percent; domestic air 85.79 percent; international air 70.24 percent; Sea 95.70 percent; crossings 63.19 percent and land 72.49 percent.

The Ministry of Transportation continues to ensure that the Angkutan Lebaran is carried out by prioritizing safety, security, and smoothness through cross-sector coordination and intensive monitoring at all transport nodes.

Titis also appealed to the public to start anticipating the return flow which is estimated to reach its peak on March 24, 2026 (H+3).

"The public should plan their return trip early to avoid peak times, and consider alternative travel schedules to reduce congestion and ensure that travel remains safe and comfortable," said Titis.

Titis also reminded the public to ensure that their physical condition is in good condition, carry personal medicines, and ensure vehicle readiness before traveling.

In addition, the public is urged to use official and licensed modes of transportation and to use the latest information from official government channels.

"Compliance with the directions of field officers is also the key to maintaining the smoothness, safety, and comfort of travel during the 2026 Lebaran return flow," added Titis.
