Seskab Teddy Reveals Prabowo's Order: Energy Savings are Prepared When Global Geopolitics Heats Up

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has begun preparing energy-saving measures amid the threat of global turmoil that could put pressure on energy supplies and prices. This issue was discussed directly with a number of ministers of the Red and White Cabinet in a meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday, March 19, 2026.

The Cabinet Secretary (Sekab) Teddy Indra Wijaya said the meeting was held to formulate the government's strategic steps to face geopolitical dynamics, especially in the Middle East, which has the potential to shake the world energy market.

According to Teddy, the President asked the government not to wait for things to get worse. The direction is clear: energy saving strategies must be prepared from now, with measurable targets and focus on sectors that have the greatest influence on national energy consumption.

"The President discussed strategic steps related to energy saving plans in various sectors, as an anticipation of geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East region that could affect the stability of global energy supply and prices," Teddy said in a written statement.

He added that Prabowo also gave instructions that efficiency should not be carried out in general and spread, but rather directed to certain sectors that have the greatest impact on domestic energy resilience.

"The President instructed that efficiency be focused on several specific sectors in order to maintain domestic energy stability and resilience," said Teddy.

The government is reading the risks from abroad as a direct threat to the country. Therefore, energy savings are no longer treated as a technical discourse, but as a precautionary measure to maintain supplies, contain price volatility, and protect national economic stability.

Through cross-ministerial coordination, the government is preparing policies that are expected to reduce energy consumption without disrupting people's economic activities.
