Revision of Law 12/1980 Will Arrange Pension Money for State Officials More Proportional

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the DPR RI Legislation Agency (Baleg), Ahmad Doli Kurnia, emphasized that his party would try to revise Law Number 12 of 1980 within two years as ordered by the Constitutional Court (MK) Decision Number 191/PUU-XXIII/2025.

As is known, the Constitutional Court ordered the government and the DPR to completely overhaul regulations regarding financial rights as contained in Law Number 12 of 1980.

The Constitutional Court considers Law 12/1980 to be no longer relevant to the current constitutional structure and has set a two-year deadline to draft new rules that are fairer to the public.

In its ruling, the Constitutional Court stated that Law 12/1980 concerning the Financial/Administrative Rights of the Leaders and Members of the Highest/Highest State Institutions and Former Leaders of the Highest/Highest State Institutions and Former Members of the Highest State Institutions was unconstitutional if it was not amended within two years.

Doli said the DPR respected the Constitutional Court's decision because it was final and binding.

According to him, Decision 191 is very good, because it asks the DPR and the government to make adjustments to various changes in the country's structure and institutions.

"Yes, I am grateful to the applicant and the Constitutional Court for deciding on that. Judicial review reminds us all that there is a need for adjustments to laws and regulations," he said, Wednesday, March 18.

The politician from the Golkar Party Faction revealed that changes to Law 12/1980 which regulates pensions and awards will be carried out proportionally.

"The message in the ruling is clear enough for us, the law makers, to be a material for study in determining policies related to the institution and the financial rights of the country, and others," said Doli.
