JAKARTA - The government has ensured the readiness of national road sections in West Sumatra Province to face the 2026 Eid homecoming and return flow.
One of the main corridors of public mobility that is of concern is the Padang-Bukittinggi route, which crosses the Anai Valley and Sitinjau Lauik areas.
The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has ensured that the road in the Anai Valley area can be used for 24 hours. Previously, the section had a time limit on its operational hours due to the post-disaster reconstruction process in West Sumatra.
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo said the government continues to accelerate the handling of a number of vulnerable points along the route to ensure that people's travel remains safe.
"We ensure that handling at vulnerable points, such as the Anai Valley and Sitinjau Lauik, continues to be accelerated so that people can travel home safely and comfortably," he said, quoted from the Government Communication Agency, Tuesday, March 17.
Progress in Handling the Anai and Sitinjau Lauik Valley
On the Padang-Bukittinggi section, the handling is focused on several strategic points that were previously affected by disasters, including the Anai Valley area.
During the period of H-10 to H+10 Lebaran, the section is functionalized with 24-hour operation to support the smooth flow of homecoming and return flows.
Currently, the progress of handling in the Anai Valley area has reached around 44 percent, with the work of the bore pile foundation which has reached around 78 percent.
Even though the work is still ongoing, the lane is still functional to serve the movement of people's traffic during the Lebaran homecoming period.
In addition, the Margayasa Twin Bridge will also be optimally functioned during the homecoming period to support the smooth flow of traffic on the Padang-Bukittinggi corridor.
Meanwhile, on the Sitinjau Lauik line, which is currently under construction for a flyover, the West Sumatra National Road Implementation Office (BPJN) carried out technical engineering to maintain adequate traffic capacity.
The adjustment was made by shifting the position of the barrier towards the drainage so that the vehicle space remains optimal during the homecoming period.
To support readiness in the field, as many as 40 heavy equipment units were also alerted by the Ministry of PU to anticipate potential disruptions on national roads, such as landslides, fallen trees, and other emergency conditions that have the potential to hinder the journey of pilgrims.
