JAKARTA - Constitutional Justice Anwar Usman was the last to read the Constitutional Court (MK) verdict at the trial of the Law on 15 cases requested to be read at the trial held in Jakarta, Monday.

Anwar read the verdict on case number 176/PUU-XXII/2025 regarding the material test of the Financial Rights/Administration of the Head and Members of the Highest/Highest State Institutions and Former Heads of the Highest/Highest State Institutions.

Before reading the verdict, Anwar said goodbye and apologized.

"Before I read the verdict, this may be the last trial for me to attend because on April 6, 2026, I will have served for 15 years at the Constitutional Court," said Anwar as reported by ANTARA, Monday, March 16.

On that occasion, Anwar apologized if during his service there were things that were not pleasing either intentionally or unintentionally.

"Of course, during such a long time there are things that are not pleasing, whether intentional or unintentional. For this reason, from the depths of my heart, I apologize," he said.

After saying goodbye, Anwar continued his duty by reading the verdict on the case filed by the applicants. A total of 15 cases were read by the MK panel in turn and Anwar got the last turn to read the verdict.

"I started reading the last verdict for me to read," he said.

Anwar is the brother-in-law of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, and has served as the 6th Chairman of the Constitutional Court and the 6th Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Court.

In 2023, Anwar was involved in a controversy regarding the age limit for the presidential and vice presidential candidates, which facilitated his nephew, namely Gibran Rakabuming Raka, in his candidacy as vice president, until he was reported to the Constitutional Court Honor Council (MKMK).

In November 2023, the MKMK stated that Anwar was proven to have committed a serious violation of the code of ethics related to conflicts of interest in the Constitutional Court's decision on the minimum age requirement for the presidential and vice presidential candidates.

Then in July 2024, the MKMK decided that Anwar was not proven to have committed the alleged violation of the code of ethics of judges reported by lawyer Zico Leonardo Djagardo Simanjunto for alleged violations of the ethics of the principle of speed and decency as stated in Sapta Karsa Hutama.

In addition, Anwar is known to often be absent from meetings and hearings.

The MKMK on December 31, 2025 released a report on the implementation of its duties throughout 2025. In the report, the MKMK, among others, reported the results of monitoring the code of ethics through the presence of constitutional judges in trials and meetings of deliberation of judges (RPH).

Based on the results of the MKMK monitoring, Constitutional Justice Anwar was the most frequent absentee in the trial. He was recorded as absent 81 times in plenary sessions and 32 times in panel sessions.
