ACEH - The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri), Tito Karnavian, said the government was running two options so that survivors of natural disasters in the floods in Aceh Province, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, did not celebrate Eid al-Fitr in emergency tents.
"Our target before Lebaran, all (natural disaster survivors) are not in emergency tents with two options, namely living in temporary housing (huntara) or given Rp1.6 million housing waiting funds," said Tito Karnavian as reported by ANTARA, Monday, March 16.
Tito Karnavian together with the Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf, were in East Aceh in order to hand over assistance worth Rp. 100.9 billion to survivors of disasters in the area. The symbolic handover of assistance took place at the East Aceh Regent's Pendopo, Kampung Jawa, Idi Rayeuk District, East Aceh.
Tito explained that the government wants survivors of disasters who are still in evacuation tents to immediately occupy more decent housing, including when celebrating Eid.
According to him, the construction of temporary housing shows significant progress, so he believes that all residents can immediately settle in.
The Ministry of Public Works, he continued, even formed three teams to accelerate the construction of temporary housing.
"Minister PU believes that March 19 at 23.00 is completed and the next day on March 20 will be handed over," he said.
Tito hopes that when the temporary housing is completed, the place can be immediately occupied by residents, so that emergency tents can be immediately dismantled or cleaned.
"Don't let the huntaranya exist, but the tent that is in a mess is still there. That is not a good impression and it seems that there are still many refugees, even though there are actually no more," he said.
