JAKARTA - The Mayor of Bandung Muhammad Farhan has ensured that he has not been able to realize the public's desire to open the Bandung Zoo alias Bandung Zoo during the 2026 Lebaran holiday.
"Hopefully in the near future this problem can be resolved, so that the Bandung Zoo can resume operations," said Farhan in Bandung, Friday, quoted by Antara.
Farhan apologized to the public, because the zoo has not yet received an operating permit after the previous management conservation agency permit was revoked by the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia.
He said that with an area of about 11.7 hectares, the Bandung Zoo is considered to have a strategic role as a green area in the midst of urban density.
"We hope that this issue can be resolved immediately so that one of the tourist destinations in the City of Bandung can be reopened to the public," he said.
Furthermore, Farhan revealed that there has been no progress regarding the appointment of a new manager for the Bandung Zoo, because the selection process is carried out strictly.
According to him, the selection team involves various parties, ranging from experts, culturalists, provincial governments, city governments, to the central government.
"The concept is being made again. But, in principle, there are several things that must be maintained," he said.
Farhan said his party focused on four main aspects that must be maintained in the arrangement of the area, namely the rescue of water sources and protected areas, land rescue, protection of employees, and preservation of the zoo's historical heritage.
"This aspect must be maintained in the new concept of the zoo which will be carried out by the selection team," he said.
The Bandung City Government targets that the selection process for the new manager of the Bandung Zoo can be completed by April 2026, so that the management of the zoo area can run optimally again.
