Sigi Police Arrest Uncle Allegedly Perpetrator of Rape of 12-Year-Old Child

SIGI - The Sigi Police, Sigi Regency, arrested a man suspected of committing rape or sexual harassment against a child in Bulubete Village, South Dolo District.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sigi Police, Siti Elminawati, said the perpetrator with the initials S (42) was the victim's uncle.

"Based on the results of the examination of a number of witnesses and evidence that has been obtained, the investigators have named one person as a suspect. For the perpetrator, he has been detained for further investigation," said Siti when contacted by media crews in Sigi, Antara, Sunday, March 8.

He explained that the suspect was charged with Article 473 paragraph (1) and paragraph (2) letter b of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code with a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.

Siti said the sexual harassment incident occurred between August and December 2025.

"The case of harassment occurred in the period from August to December 2025 and is currently still being investigated to complete the case file," he said.

The victim in the case is known to be 12 years old. According to him, the handling of the case is carried out by prioritizing the principle of child protection and maintaining the confidentiality of the victim's identity.

Meanwhile, based on police data, throughout 2025 there were 18 cases of sexual abuse in the area with the majority of victims being children and women.

He emphasized that the police would take firm action against any case of sexual violence involving children.

"Sigi Police are committed to taking firm action against perpetrators who involve children as victims," he said.
