Prabowo Says Stopping the Fall of Victims in Gaza Cannot Be Instant

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the number of victims of the conflict in Gaza cannot be stopped immediately even though various diplomatic efforts continue to be carried out to reduce violence in the region.

The Secretary of the Cabinet (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya said this was conveyed by the President when he held a meeting with about 160 Islamic scholars and community organization (ormas) figures at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (5/3).

According to Teddy, the Indonesian Government has made various efforts, including joining the Board of Peace (BoP) as an Indonesian diplomatic step in promoting peace in the Middle East.

"President Prabowo emphasized that this decision was a concrete step taken as an effort to reduce the number of conflicts and victims in Palestine," said Teddy as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, March 6.

Based on data presented at the meeting, since the signing of the Gaza peace agreement in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt in October 2025, the number of conflicts and casualties in Gaza in the last six months has shown a significant decline.

The number of casualties, which previously reached more than 70,000 people in the 2024-2025 period, has now decreased to around 600 to 1,000 people in the last six months.

However, the President emphasized that a total cessation of conflict could not happen instantly. Clashes and casualties still occur in a number of points, but with a much lower intensity than before.

"The cessation of conflict in total cannot be instantaneous. There are still some conflicts and casualties, but with a very reduced number," said Teddy.

The Indonesian government, said Teddy, will continue to encourage various diplomatic efforts with other countries to reduce the escalation of the conflict and accelerate the creation of a more permanent peace in Palestine.
