JAKARTA - Chairman of the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission Jimly Asshiddiqie said that the results of the evaluation and study prepared by his commission were tried to be reported directly to President Prabowo Subianto before Eid al-Fitr.

Jimly said the schedule for a meeting with the President was still being arranged by the Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. According to him, the report is expected to be submitted before Lebaran, although the President's agenda is currently quite busy.

"Mr. Mensesneg and Mr. Seskab will arrange it. It is hoped that before Lebaran, because the President is very busy and there is a possibility that he will make another visit abroad," said Jimly in Jakarta, Thursday night, March 5.

He added that global geopolitical dynamics were also a concern for the government, including the development of the situation in the Gulf and Middle East regions, which are currently in the spotlight of the world.

"Because the global situation is also dynamic, we understand that the report of the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission has not received a definite schedule, but it was promised before Lebaran," he said.

On the same occasion, Jimly said that his commission had completed the study and recommendations related to the comprehensive improvement of the Polri institution. The results of the study were contained in 10 books containing various institutional reform recommendations.

However, Jimly has not been able to reveal the details of the recommendations because they must first be submitted to the President.

He explained that a number of recommendations that were compiled included changes at the level of laws to internal regulations of the National Police. Some of them require revisions to implementing regulations, including a number of Polri regulations and regulations of the National Police Chief.

"The recommendations are complete in 10 books. This is the result of absorbing the aspirations of the people. There are things that are principled that require changes to laws, as well as regulations for their implementation. In addition, there are about eight Polri regulations and 24 regulations of the National Police Chief that need to be revised so that they can become guidelines in the internal reform of the National Police in a sustainable manner," he explained.

On a separate occasion at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Jimly also explained the reason why the commission had to submit a report directly to the President.

According to him, although the commission's duties have been completed, there are a number of strategic decisions that cannot be decided by the commission independently so that it requires guidance from the President.

"We need to report that the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission has completed its duties. However, there are still decisions that we cannot decide on our own, so we need guidance from the President," said Jimly.
