BANDUNG - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said that the Technical Commission was conducting an evaluation and strict supervision of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program following reports of inappropriate menus, including the discovery of maggots in the Greater Bandung area.

Dasco said complaints from parents of students regarding the quality of food during Ramadan had been accepted as an important input for the legislature to be immediately improved by the program managers.

"This input has also been conveyed by the Technical Commission to the MBG to carry out improvements and evaluations," said Dasco at the ITB Campus, Bandung, Thursday, March 5, reported by ANTARA.

Dascomengatakan DPR terus memantau persentase keluhan dibandingkan dengan jumlah dapur yang memberikan manfaatguna memastikan efektivitas program di tengah laporan adanya menu "rapel" yang kondisinya sudah asam atau membusuk.

The report of the MBG menu that is not suitable, surfaced after a number of parents of students in Bandung Regency found maggots in mangosteen and fla singkong fruit that had expired.

Wati, one of the parents of students at MI Al-Halim, Cangkuang, admitted that he was surprised when he found that the food package distributed on the third day of Ramadan contained rotten fruit.

"I was surprised that there were maggots (in mangosteen) and (sago) were rotten. My child did not eat, only bread and milk were consumed," said Wati.

Similar complaints also came from parents of students of various levels in other Bandung Regency. Some parents protested the menu which was considered far from the nutritional standard, such as a package that only contained one orange and two steamed buns, to a package of raw materials in the form of chicken and tempeh which actually burdened parents to cook themselves.

The MBG program is a national strategic policy aimed at improving the nutritional fulfillment of beneficiaries, but the distribution and quality of raw materials in the field are now a critical note for the relevant authorities.
