JAKARTA - A woman allegedly stole condolence money by pretending to be a mourner at a funeral home in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta (Jaktim).

The incident occurred to the family of Nyai Hasanah (45) on Monday (2/3) at around 12.30 WIB.

"Yes, the perpetrator is a woman, she wants to pay her respects, knows us, knows that the condolence money is gone and there is nothing left," said Hasanah when met at the scene, Wednesday.

Hasanah recounted that the perpetrator came since the morning when the atmosphere at home was still quiet and the mourners had not yet arrived in large numbers. Hasanah's mother-in-law died at around 04.00 WIB, while the perpetrator arrived at around 08.00 WIB.

The perpetrator even lasted until the time of the funeral. While at the funeral home, he just sat and occasionally watched the situation around him.

To the family, the woman claimed to be a friend of the victim's brother-in-law and called herself a "friend of the struggle" when she took social assistance such as basic necessities and KJP.

Because he felt that the perpetrator knew his family, Hasanah did not suspect anything. Until finally, the perpetrator carried out his actions on the pretext of wanting to go to the toilet.

The family only realized the loss at around 12.30 WIB. Residents chased after, but the perpetrator had already fled.

The action went viral on the Instagram social media @info_cipayung. It can be seen in the surveillance camera (CCTV) footage that the perpetrator ran out after carrying out the action at the funeral home on Jalan Dukuh IV, Dukuh Village, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, Monday (2/3).

The alleged perpetrator is also claimed to have carried out similar actions in several places such as on Jalan Damai Lubang Buaya on December 22, 2025 and on Jalan Bambu Kuning, Bambu Apus, on February 4, 2026.

The head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kramat Jati Police, AKP Fadoli, said his party had investigated this case.

"We are investigating the case of theft of condolence money in Kramat Jati by a woman," said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kramat Jati Police, AKP Fadoli when confirmed in Jakarta, Wednesday.

The perpetrator is suspected of carrying out the action by pretending to know the deceased's family so that they can mingle with the mourners. Fadoli confirmed that his party was currently handling the case.

"He carried out his actions by pretending to know the deceased's family and then mingling with other mourners," he said.

According to Fadoli, the perpetrator took advantage of the situation at the funeral home which was crowded by mourners. When the condition was slack, the woman took the condolences money which had previously been collected and put into her bag.

"The police were distracted, the perpetrator took the condolence money that had been put in his bag and ran away," he said.

Police have visited the crime scene (TKP) to conduct an initial investigation.

In addition to asking for information from the victim's family and a number of witnesses, officers also examined surveillance camera (CCTV) footage around the location.

"We have also checked the crime scene to ask for information from the victim's family and to see the CCTV that is there," said Fadoli.

Until now, the police are still hunting for the perpetrator and investigating his identity. Fadoli also appealed to the public to remain vigilant, including when they are at the funeral home, by ensuring that the management of condolence money is carried out by trusted people and supervised in turn.
