JAKARTA - IPO Executive Director, Dedi Kurnia Syah, revealed that non-parliamentary political parties (parpol) will definitely not be able to penetrate the DPR if the parliamentary threshold (PT) of seven percent is imposed.

"There will be no non-parliamentary political party that can penetrate the PT by seven percent," he said, Sunday, March 1.

He assessed that only through political conditioning carried out in a haphazard manner would be a solution for non-parliamentary parties to pass to the DPR if the seven percent PT was implemented. Dedi gave an example, in the 2024 election, PSI which was supported by power alone could not pass to parliament with a PT of four percent.

"Yes, unless there is extraordinary conditioning, PSI alone who gets power support in 2024 does not succeed in passing four percent, in a period of one period it is able to increase to seven percent it feels very difficult," he added.

According to Dedi, the step of the NasDem Party proposing a PT increase to seven percent is considered bold and optimistic.

He suspected that this was done by the party led by Surya Paloh to maintain the number of parties in parliament as it is today.

"It could be that there is an effort by NasDem to maintain the stability of the political parties in the DPR and new political parties are hindered or at least have difficulty entering parliament," he said.

Dedi said that NasDem, which is not a party in the circle of power, will still enter parliament if the seven percent PT is implemented. Because, their election rate continues to increase and the trend will occur in 2029. "The 2029 election will allow NasDem to enter the seven percent circle, even though it has to compete fiercely with PAN, PKS, PKB, and the Democrats," he continued.

He stated that all political parties that are currently entrenched in parliament actually have the opportunity to meet the PT target of seven percent if the provision is enacted. "If you refer to survey data, the overall political parties in parliament are still quite strong and able to survive," said Dedi.

Previously, the chairman of the NasDem Party, Surya Paloh, said his party would consistently push for the parliamentary threshold (PT) at seven percent as proposed in 2020. NasDem, he continued, felt that the number of political parties as it is today could be simplified through the implementation of the seven percent PT and the simplification of political parties in parliament could make the wheels of government effective and stable.
