SEMARANG - Perum Bulog has purchased around 30 tons of rice from various ready-to-harvest rice fields in various areas in Central Java that were affected by floods as an effort to keep prices stable amid extreme weather.
Director of Procurement of Perum Bulog Prihasto Setyanto said that the purchase of rice affected by the flood was still in accordance with the government purchase price (HPP) of Rp. 6,500 per kg.
He said that physically the rice absorbed was seen to be dirtier and black in color due to being mixed with mud.
However, he ensured that the quality of the rice bran was still good and worthy of processing considering that it was not submerged in the flood for too long.
"If you look at the damage, it is indeed big because it is close to harvest time," he said.
Prihast emphasized Bulog's commitment to absorb farmers' rice in flood-affected areas at the purchase price according to the HPP.
According to him, similar efforts will also be carried out in other areas as long as there is official information from the local agricultural dinar.
In addition, farmers affected by the flood whose land is ready to harvest are urged to carry out initial handling before selling to Bulog or milling partners.
Prihasto suggested that the rice that had previously been submerged in the flood needed to be aired to reduce the water and dirt content.
"Grain that is too wet or too much dirt will actually damage the drying machine," he said.
