JAAKRTA - Oman confirmed the start of a new round of indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States in Geneva on Thursday.

The talks began simultaneously with a meeting between Oman's Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said via the X social media platform.

Busaidi emphasized the importance of the IAEA's "professional and technical" role and "the need to ensure transparency, credibility, and proper governance in the relevant procedures".

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Thursday, February 26, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi led the Iranian diplomatic delegation in the negotiations. Members of the delegation included Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi, as well as a team of nuclear and legal experts.

The Americans, just like the previous round, were led by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

Tehran and Washington have held two rounds of indirect talks under Omani mediation since nuclear diplomacy resumed last month, following efforts by a number of regional countries, to ease tensions.

After the previous round in Geneva, which followed the first round in Muscat, both sides gave positive assessments and agreed on "guide principles" that Iranian negotiators said could pave the way for a possible deal.

Talks between Tehran and Washington come amid a significant increase in US military presence in the Persian Gulf region, along with a series of recent military exercises conducted by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
