MATARAM - The Mataram District Court, West Nusa Tenggara, has sentenced Suhaeli and Heriyang to 18 years in prison each as defendants in the case of the murder of Spanish citizen Maria Matilda Munoz Cazorla.

"To judge and impose a sentence on the defendant, one Suhaeli and defendant two Heri with a sentence of 18 years in prison each," said the Head of the Kelik Trimargod Hakim Panel in the reading of the verdict at the Mataram District Court, Wednesday, February 25, reported by ANTARA.

The panel of judges imposed the sentence in accordance with the prosecutor's request, stating that the actions of the two defendants had been proven to violate the first alternative charge of Article 459 in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.

"That the actions of the two defendants have been proven to have jointly committed premeditated murder of the victim Maria Matilda Munoz Cazorla," he said.

The judge's consideration for imposing the sentence was based on the facts revealed in the trial, both from the testimony of witnesses, experts, and evidence that had been presented before the panel of judges.

In line with the prosecutor's demands, the fulfillment of the criminal element of premeditated murder is related to the intention of the two defendants who initially would steal valuables belonging to the victim.

Maria Matilda was killed and her body was found buried on the coast of the Senggigi area, West Lombok Regency, about a month after being killed by the two perpetrators in early July 2025.

The existence of Maria Matilda's body was revealed after the police arrested the two perpetrators from tracking the victim's cell phone that was pawned in the West Lombok area.
