Flyover Latumenten Makes Living Road One Lane, Kenneth DKI DPRD: Traffic is Exceptional

JAKARTA - The construction project of the Latumenten Flyover in Grogol, West Jakarta, actually triggered severe congestion during the construction period. The narrowing of the road is considered to make the vehicle queue flow, especially during rush hours.

Member of Commission C of the DKI Jakarta DPRD from the PDI Perjuangan Faction, Hardiyanto Kenneth, went directly to the location after receiving many reports from residents. The legislator, who is familiarly called Bang Kent, carried out a sudden inspection to see the conditions on the ground.

"Many residents complained to me. This construction process is very congested because there is a narrowing of the road," said Kenneth in his statement, Monday, February 23.

From the results of the review, Kenneth found that Latumenten Road, which previously had three lanes, now only had one active lane. This drastic narrowing made the flow of vehicles stagnate and long queues were inevitable.

The condition is getting worse when it's time to go to work and come home. Private vehicles, public transportation, and logistics vehicles are mixed in the same narrow lane.

Kenneth also highlighted the Mikrotrans shuttle that stops right after the train crossing. According to him, the position is at a bottleneck or bottleneck.

"Angkot stops right after the train crossing. This exacerbates the congestion. The stopping point should be shifted a little forward after the bottleneck position, so that the vehicle flow continues to move," he said.

The congestion is considered more complex because container trucks and large buses still pass through narrow roads. With only one lane, large-sized vehicles are considered to slow down traffic flow.

"Container trucks and large buses still pass through here. With the condition of only one lane, this is clearly not ideal. I ask the DKI Jakarta Transportation Office to immediately find a concrete solution," he said.

Kenneth emphasized that strategic projects must still pay attention to the comfort and safety of residents around them.

"We all support the development of the Latumenten Flyover because the goal is good, to reduce congestion due to train crossings. But don't let the process actually make people suffer every day. There must be stricter traffic regulations, consistent field supervision, and quick solutions for large vehicles and angkot stop points," he said.

He ensured that he would continue to monitor the project so that it really provides benefits after it is completed. "If it can be anticipated now, why wait for it to get worse? I will continue to control this project until it really benefits the people, not even adding to the burden on the road," he said.

Separately, the Deputy Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Office, Ujang Harmawan, stated that his party had appealed to road users to find alternative routes. However, for the restriction of large vehicles, the DKI Provincial Government is still waiting for a decision from the Ministry of Transportation.

"We will coordinate with the western region transportation entrepreneurs. The provincial government has also written to the center. We will update later," said Ujang.

For information, the Flyover Latumenten was built along approximately 380 meters and is projected to be a long-term solution to solve the congestion caused by the railway crossing in the area. After the project is completed, Jalan Latumenten is planned to be used exclusively for public vehicles.

However, before the benefits are felt, Grogol residents must face daily congestion that is increasingly uncontrollable during the construction period.
