JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) revealed that the active fault activity caused shallow earthquakes to shake Buton Regency in South Sulawesi Province.
Head of the Regional Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Center (BMKG) for Region IV Nasrol Adil said that the tectonic earthquake shook the Buton area on Monday at 07.39 Wita.
"The results of the BMKG analysis show that this earthquake has an update parameter with a magnitude of 2.7," he said when contacted in Kendari, Monday, quoted by Antara.
He said, based on the epicenter of the earthquake at the coordinates of 5.42 degrees South Latitude (LS) and 122.92 degrees East Longitude (BT), precisely in the sea at a distance of 10 kilometers from Buton at a depth of 5 kilometers.
"By taking into account the epicenter location and the hypocenter depth, the earthquake that occurred is a shallow earthquake type due to active faults," he said.
Nasrol Adil revealed that based on the estimation of the shakemap and community reports, the earthquake caused shaking in Pasarwajo District with an intensity scale of II-III MMI or vibrations felt by some people, light objects that were hung were swaying, the vibration was also felt real in the house, until the vibration felt as if there was a truck passing by.
"Until 08.37 Wita, the results of BMKG monitoring have not shown any subsequent earthquake events," he said.
He appealed to the entire community to always pay attention to the information received regarding earthquakes.
