BMKG Warns of Potential Heavy Rain and Lightning in Several Regions

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that on Monday, February 23, light rain and lightning rain are expected to occur in most major cities in Indonesia.

BMKG weather practitioner, Lintang A. N. in a statement quoted by Antara Jakarta, Monday morning, said that the cities that have the potential for light rain are Medan, Pangkalpinang, Samarinda, Bandung, and Yogyakarta.

"There is the potential for light rain in Mataram, Makassar, Palu, Gorontalo, Manado, Kendari, Sorong, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya," he said.

In addition, lightning rain is also potentially occurring in Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Palembang, Bengkulu, Bandar Lampung, Jakarta, Semarang, Pontianak, Banjarmasin, and Tanjung Selor.

Then, thunderstorms in eastern Indonesia are potentially occurring in Denpasar, Kupang, Ternate, and Nabire.

Lintang reminded people to be aware of the potential for heavy to very heavy rain in the Riau Islands, Central Java, Yogyakarta Special Region, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and West Sulawesi.

Meanwhile, the potential for moderate rain is in Serang, Palangka Raya, Surabaya, Mamuju and Merauke. Then, the potential for thick clouds in Ambon, Manokwari, Banda Aceh, Pekanbaru, and Padang.
