JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump expressed his appreciation to Indonesia for its real contribution to efforts to maintain a ceasefire and promote sustainable peace in Gaza.
Trump made the statement at the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace, Thursday, February 19 local time, which discussed the role of countries in the world in realizing peace in the region.
Trump emphasized that the involvement of countries in the forum did not stop at financial support alone. A number of countries, including Indonesia, are said to be committed to contributing further by preparing personnel to help maintain stability and peace so that they can be realized in the long term in conflict areas.
"The countries present here today are not only contributing funds. Some have also committed to sending personnel to help maintain the ceasefire and secure a truly sustainable peace," Trump said.
According to him, peace efforts in Gaza should not be temporary or symbolic. He stressed the importance of long-term commitment so that the conflict does not break out again in a short time. "We need a lasting peace. A peace that we know will break out again in two weeks is meaningless," he said.
In this context, Trump specifically expressed his appreciation to Indonesia. He called Indonesia a big country with a strategic role in international peace efforts, including in the Gaza issue.
"Specifically, Indonesia, thank you very much. This is an amazing country," Trump said.
Trump also highlighted the leadership of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, who he considered to have the firmness and intelligence needed in a global crisis situation.
According to Trump, leadership is an important factor in maintaining stability and ensuring sustainable peace.
"He (Prabowo) is a tough guy. And we say that with great respect. We need strength. He is tough and he is smart. And that intelligence is even more important," Trump said.
Previously, at the 80th General Session of the United Nations (UN) on September 23, 2025, the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia has always been committed to fighting for equality, collaboration, and peace. Therefore, Prabowo stated that he was ready to send peacekeepers to Gaza.
"Indonesia is ready to deploy 20,000 or even more of our sons and daughters to help secure peace in Gaza," said Prabowo.
On that occasion, Prabowo also emphasized that recognition of the Palestinian state is an important step to stop the ongoing humanitarian disaster.
"Recognition of the Palestinian state is the right step, on the right side of history," said Prabowo.
