TANJUNG SELOR - The North Kalimantan Provincial Government (Pemprov) has distributed free new electricity installation (BPBL) assistance to 1,878 pre-prosperous households throughout the 2025 fiscal year. This program targets residents who have not had a self-sufficient electricity connection.

Head of the Kaltara Energy and Mineral Resources Office (ESDM) Yosua Batara Payangan said the installation was carried out through collaboration between the central and regional governments and PT PLN Persero

"From the Kaltara APBD, there are 271 houses that have been connected to electricity through PLN and are spread across five regencies/cities," said Yosua, Wednesday, February 18.

"In detail, regional assistance was given to 62 houses in Bulungan Regency, 73 houses in Nunukan, 63 houses in Tana Tidung, and 73 houses in Tarakan City," he continued.

Yosua also revealed that assistance from the state budget would reach 1,516 households, consisting of 454 houses in Bulungan, 344 houses in Nunukan, 570 houses in Regency, and 148 houses in Tarakan.

"So the total beneficiaries of the BPBL in 2025 are recorded at 1,787 households. However, this program has not reached all areas. A number of households still cannot be electrified because distribution networks such as electricity poles have not been built," he said.

This condition occurs in remote areas and settlements far from the main electricity infrastructure. Therefore, the North Kalimantan Provincial Government plans to coordinate with PLN to expand the network so that residents who have not been served can obtain access to electricity in the following year.

"The provision of electricity is not only related to lighting, but also basic needs that affect education, health, and household economic activities. The expansion of electricity infrastructure is considered to be the main work of the government so that the energy access gap in Kaltara can be suppressed," he said.
