JAKARTA - Iranian Foreign Minister (Menlu) Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Geneva, Switzerland, Monday, February 16 local time.
Araghchi's arrival was to attend a second round of follow-up nuclear talks with the United States (US) amid military pressure and sanctions from Washington.
"The foreign minister has arrived in Geneva as head of a diplomatic delegation and expert to take part in the second round of nuclear negotiations," the public broadcaster in Iran, IRIB, wrote on its Telegram channel, Monday, February 16.
According to Taheran, based on AFP's report, the indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US, mediated by Oman, are scheduled to be held today, Tuesday, February 17.
Araghchi has met with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi. He will only meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman, Badr Al-Busaidi, who is hosting the second round of these follow-up nuclear negotiations.
Previously, Washington had also pushed for other topics to be discussed in the negotiations, including Iran's ballistic missiles and support for regional proxies.
"I am in Geneva with real ideas to reach a fair and equitable agreement," Araghchi wrote on his X account.
"What is not in the discussion: surrender in the face of threats," he continued.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said that during his visit to Geneva, Araghchi was also expected to hold talks with his Swiss counterpart, and other international officials.
The White House said on Sunday that the US had sent Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner to the nuclear talks with Iran.
Iran-US resumed follow-up nuclear negotiations after failing due to Israel launching its air attack bombing Iran in June 2025.
