JAKARTA - The Chinese government hopes that the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip can run effectively including with Indonesia's plan to send security forces to Palestine.
"We hope that the ceasefire agreement in Gaza can be effectively implemented, a full and lasting ceasefire can be realized, the humanitarian crisis can be effectively overcome, and regional stability can be restored as soon as possible," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian in response to questions from ANTARA in a press conference in Beijing, Thursday (12/2).
Previously, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said that Indonesia was preparing to send security forces to Gaza, Palestine, through the International Stabilization Force (ISF). The Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the number was around 8,000 TNI soldiers.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also emphasized Indonesia's involvement in ISF is more focused on the humanitarian aspect and is not involved in disarmament.
ISF is a manifestation of the UN Security Council resolution on November 17, 2025, which was proposed by the United States. The resolution authorizes UN member states and the Board of Peace (BoP) to establish a temporary ISF in Gaza under unified command, with contributions from participating countries, and the authority to take necessary steps in accordance with international law.
The resolution also stipulates that Israel will withdraw its troops once the ISF takes full control of Gaza. The ceasefire agreement itself has actually been in place since October 10, 2025 between Israel and Hamas, although it is still often violated.
According to Lin Jian, the two-state solution is the fundamental solution to the Palestinian problem.
"China opposes the construction of settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories. China opposes any attempt to annex or violate Palestinian territory and disrupt the political basis of the two-state solution," Lin Jian added.
The current situation in Gaza, said Lin Jian, remains very fragile.
"Relevant parties need to stop any actions that could aggravate or escalate tensions," Lin Jian said.
According to the UN Security Council resolution, the ISF is tasked with, among other things, helping to secure the border area, stabilizing the security environment in Gaza by ensuring the demilitarization process in the Gaza Strip, protecting civilians, and coordinating with relevant countries to secure humanitarian corridors.
ISF operates under the strategic guidance of BoP and will be funded through voluntary contributions from donors as well as BoP and government funding sources.
Indonesia itself is a signatory to the Charter of the Peace Council as the foundation for the BoP on January 22, 2026 in Davos, Switzerland.
Until now, the countries that have joined BoP are Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Albania, Bahrain, Belarus, Bulgaria, Cambodia, El Salvador, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Mongolia, Morocco, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam and are led by the United States.
A number of major European countries, such as France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, are not included in the list. In addition, other members of the PBBy Security Council, namely China and Russia, are also not included.
Indonesia's involvement in the BoP, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is based on a commitment to support peace for the Palestinians in accordance with the Two-State Solution.
Meanwhile, since it broke out in October 2023, the war in Gaza has killed more than 71,000 people, mostly women and children, and injured more than 171,000 others.
The Gaza Ministry of Health has recorded at least 464 Palestinian civilians killed and nearly 1,280 others injured as a result of Israeli attacks since the ceasefire was imposed.
