MAKASSAR - The United Development Party (PPP) has given a strong signal of support for President Prabowo Subianto to run again in the second term.

The support emerged in the PPP National Working Conference (Mukernas) held in Makassar City, South Sulawesi, Wednesday, February 11.

PPP Chairman Mardiono said that politically, PPP is in the government coalition and will continue to provide full support for President Prabowo Subianto's policies which are considered pro-people. In fact, personally, Mardiono expressed his support if Prabowo ran again in the upcoming presidential election contest.

"If I myself support it. However, it will certainly be formulated in party meetings. This is still quite far away, about 3 years," he told reporters after officially opening the PPP Mukernas.

According to him, PPP's support for the Prabowo government is based on strategic programs that are considered to have begun to be felt by the community. One of them is the food security program, as well as plans to strengthen energy security and economic policies that are in favor of the people.

He also touched on a number of government flagship programs, such as the establishment of the Merah Putih Cooperative and free nutritious meals (MBG) which he said were efforts to build an economy from the people, by the people, and for the people.

"We have felt President Prabowo Subianto's programs, such as food security, then in the future energy security, as well as pro-people economic policies. How does economic sovereignty return to the hands of the people," he said.

However, Mardiono emphasized that discussions related to the figure of the vice presidential candidate from the PPP were still too early to be discussed at this time.

"Not yet, it's still far away. It's still more than 3 years," he continued.

Mardiono said that the PPP Mukernas was an important momentum for the party with the Ka'bah symbol to strengthen internal consolidation as well as to formulate medium and long-term political strategies. One of the major targets that was announced was to restore the glory of the PPP in parliament.

He added that the strategy to achieve the target would be discussed in stages through regional and national work consultations, including strengthening the organizational structure and political victory measures.

"God willing, we aspire to return the vote as in 2014. At that time, the PPP got 39 seats in the DPR," he said.

The PPP Mukernas in Makassar City discussed a number of strategic agendas, ranging from internal consolidation, the direction of political coalitions, to the position of the PPP in the dynamics of government and the national political contestation in the future.
