JAKARTA - PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya (Perseroda) is preparing a strategy to face the surge in food needs during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026. The increase in consumption is predicted to occur in a number of commodities, especially chicken eggs.
Food Station President Director Dodot Tri Widodo said that the trend of increasing consumption during religious holidays has become an annual pattern.
"If the rice increases not too much, about eight percent, while chicken eggs are around 7-17 percent, so the consumption is indeed increasing," said Dodot in a discussion at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, February 11.
To secure supplies, Food Station strengthened cross-regional cooperation with the standby buyer and on farming schemes. The company buys rice from producing areas and at the same time finances farmers to plant rice.
"In meeting the rice stock, we are working together with the regions, starting from Lampung, then in Central Java, West Java, East Java, and even finally in Bali," he said.
Currently, the stock of rice owned by Food Station reaches 80,000 tons. The household needs for the February-March period are projected at 151,023 tons, with the normal needs of Jakarta at around 2,500 tons per day or 70,000-75,000 tons per month. In addition, Food Station also manages the Cipinang Rice Wholesale Market (PIBC) with an average daily stock of 40,000 tons.
"This figure is quite because we also manage PIBC (Cipinang Rice Wholesale Market) which has an average daily stock of 40,000 tons, divided by 2,500, so for the next 20 days it is safe," explained Dodot.
For other commodities, the stock of granulated sugar was recorded at 192 tons and will be added by 1,447 tons. Cooking oil is available 36,234 liters and will be added by 643,530 liters. The stock of chicken eggs is 4.1 tons planned to be increased by 1,002 tons, as well as wheat flour from 25 tons to an additional 63.2 tons.
On the distribution side, Food Station maximizes its network of 39,000 modern trade points and 1,000 conventional customers. Cheap market operations are also held every day.
"We go to the cheap market every day in 10 points in the villages, in the apartment, to serve the needs of the community, especially the middle and lower classes to reach cheap food prices," he added.
DKI Jakarta Regional Secretary Uus Kuswanto emphasized that there should be no spike in prices or shortages of stock ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
"If the Governor says, there is no reason for the DKI Provincial Government not to be able to meet the basic needs of residents. Don't let there be a kagetan before Ramadan and Eid," he said.
Based on the DKI Provincial Government's projection, before Ramadan, the demand for eggs increased by 7.5 percent and during Eid al-Fitr it jumped to 17.20 percent. Cooking oil also increased by 9.67 percent and chicken meat by 10.77 percent. Overall, the rice stock in Jakarta was recorded at 182,172 tons which were spread across PIBC, Food Station, Bulog, and Pasar Jaya.
"If you look at the calculations of needs and availability, we are ready. But we also shouldn't be too confident. Developments in the field can be very dynamic," said Uus.
The Head of the DKI Jakarta KPKP Office, Hasudungan A. Sidabalok, added that the availability of strategic food was still in a sufficient condition.
"The availability of rice in March is estimated to be still in a sufficient condition, even exceeding monthly needs. So in general, strategic commodities are still safe," he explained.
However, horticultural commodities such as chili and onions remain a concern because they are vulnerable to distribution disruptions.
