TANJUNG SELOR - The Regional Representative Council (DPRD) of Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan (Kaltara) carried out a sudden inspection or sidak to the operational location of the PT Benamakmur Selaras Sejahtera (BSS) mine.

The investigation was led directly by two Deputy Chairmen of the Bulungan DPRD, Tasa Gung and Dwi Sugiarto, and two members of the DPRD, Sunaryo and Yohanes.

"This raid follows up on complaints from the people of Tengkapak Village regarding the alleged encroachment of plasma land without a clear price agreement. This is also a response to the report of the Bangen Tawai Cooperative," said Tasa Gung, Monday, February 9.

"The plasma land of approximately 20 hectares belonging to 14 residents has been cleared for mining activities, while the land release process is assessed as not involving the owners directly," he continued.

He explained that from the results of the raid at the location, it was found that there were plasma lands that had been cleared without any initial agreement with the land owner.

"We ask PT BSS and PT Abdi Borneo (APB) to immediately resolve this problem internally so that there is no unrest in the community," said Tasa Gung.

Tasa Gung revealed that the affected residents felt they were not involved in the process of negotiating the sale value of the land. Although the company claimed that the funds had entered the cooperative's account, residents claimed not to know the details of the agreement and demanded fair prices.

"The community asked that the selling value be equal to the previous price, which is around Rp. 200 million per hectare. We give time, the target is before Lebaran this problem must be completed," he said.

Tasa said the Bulungan DPRD reminded the importance of legal and economic certainty for land owners. In addition, if in the given deadline no agreement is reached, the DPRD will send an official letter to the management of PT APB and PT BSS to ask for accountability.

"For now, the status is disputed because there is no certainty about the price. We anticipate as early as possible so that there are no unwanted things in the field," he added.

On the other hand, the Head of Mine Engineering (KTT) of PT BSS, Vero Susanto, stated that his party did not have the authority to make decisions regarding the demands. He said the decision was at the central management level.

"We are here only as an operational matter, we cannot make decisions. We will continue to convey the points that the DPRD has made to the highest management," said Vero.

Regarding the status of the land, Vero explained that procedurally PT BSS coordinated with PT Abdi Borneo (APB) as the manager of the palm oil plasma that oversees cooperatives and communities. According to him, the company considers the land to have been "cleared" after receiving approval from PT APB.

"When PT APB has provided access, we consider that it is generally okay. We have even made a payment to them. In the future, we will immediately coordinate with PT APB to find the best solution," he said.
