JAKARTA - The Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas) team evacuated the body of a tourist who was previously reported to have drowned on Sine Beach, Tulungagung Regency, East Java.
The victim, named Muhamad Attaya Ulum (20), from Malang City, was found dead near a rock about 100 meters from the starting point of the victim who was reported to have been swept away by the waves.
"The victim was found at around 05.45 WIB by the SAR Potential Team while carrying out a routine patrol in the Sine Beach area before the third day of search began," said Coordinator of the SAR Post, Basarnas Trenggalek Bayu Prasetyo, quoted by Antara.
He explained that the morning patrol was part of the standard procedure before the SAR operation continued.
While walking along the coastline, officers saw a body lying near a rock and immediately checked to confirm the identity of the find.
After it was confirmed that it was identical to the characteristics of the victim being sought, the SAR Potential Team immediately reported the findings to the Basarnas Trenggalek SAR Post.
The officers then moved to the location of the discovery to carry out the evacuation process.
"The evacuation process was carried out by a joint team and was completed at around 06.30 WIB," said Bayu.
The victim was then taken to the Dr. Iskak Tulungagung Hospital for further medical treatment and administrative procedures before being handed over to the family.
Bayu added that during the search process, Basarnas deployed a number of joint SAR elements divided into several Search and Rescue Units (SRU).
The search was carried out through land searches, sea surface monitoring, boat patrols, and diving around the mouth of Sine Beach.
According to him, on the second and third days of the search, the weather conditions and sea waves were relatively supportive so that the team could maximize the search efforts, especially by lowering the diving team around the point where the victim was reported missing.
"Because of the characteristics of the estuary and the currents at Sine Beach are quite strong, we suspect that the victim was stuck around the rocks or the estuary floor," said Bayu.
With the discovery of the victim, the Joint SAR Operation was officially declared complete and closed after an appeal and evaluation on Monday morning. All personnel involved were then returned to their respective units.
Basarnas appeals to the public and tourists to increase vigilance when carrying out activities in the southern coastal area, especially by paying attention to wave conditions, currents, and complying with safety signs that have been installed.
