TRENGGALEK - The National SAR Agency (Basarnas) Trenggalek SAR Post deployed a diving team to search for a tourist from Malang who was lost to the waves at Sine Tulungagung Beach, East Java, on Saturday.

The search was also carried out by combing through water and land routes, but until the afternoon there was no sign of the victim's whereabouts.

"Entering the second day of the search, the victim has still not been found despite the various efforts we have made," said the Coordinator of the Basarnas Trenggalek SAR Post Bayu Prasetyo confirmed by the media crew in Tulungagung, Antara, Sunday, November 8.

Previously, six tourists were reported to have been swept away by waves while playing in the water at Sine Beach in Kalidawir District, Tulungagung.

Five people were rescued, with one of them being rushed to the Iskak Hospital because of the critical condition due to the influx of a lot of seawater.

Meanwhile, another victim was dragged by the waves to the middle and could not be helped by the residents.

The victim who was missing was identified as Muhamad Attaya Ulum (20), a resident of Blimbing District, Malang City.

Bayu explained that the SAR team deployed three Search and Rescue Units (SRU) with different tasks, namely the diving team, the monitoring and land combing team, and the boat and net team assisted by local fishermen.

The second day of the search was carried out from 07.00 to 16.00 WIB with the main focus around the mouth of Sine Beach, which was the last point where the victim was seen before disappearing.

A diving team was sent down to comb the estuary floor because it was suspected that the victim was still there or stuck in the area.

Meanwhile, the ground team is monitoring along the coast to anticipate the possibility of victims being carried away by the current and appearing on the surface.

In addition, the boat team together with local fishermen carried out a search in the waters around the estuary with a limited radius to adjust the wave conditions and sea currents.

"Because the sea water is receding and the weather is quite supportive, we are maximizing the search by the diving team with supervision from the land team and boat support," he said.

Bayu added that the second day's search was temporarily halted in the afternoon and will continue on the third day with the same pattern, but the search radius was expanded.
