JAKARTA - Good news came for informal sector workers, especially in the construction sector. The free house renovation assistance program for builders, titled Bangun Rumah Tukangku, has officially entered the construction phase starting this month.

This social initiative was born from the reality that is often encountered in the field, many builders who have built decent and sturdy houses for others for decades, but actually live in inadequate housing with their families.

Concern for this condition encourages Semen Tiga Roda to initiate the Bangun Rumah Tukangku program.

After going through a rigorous selection process of 625 community recommendations and direct surveys to various regions in Indonesia, 32 builders were selected as recipients of home renovation assistance.

The construction of the winners' houses will be carried out gradually in various regions of Indonesia, starting from the end of February to early July 2026. The construction locations are spread from Medan to Makassar.

One of the beneficiaries, Susi (51), a builder from Sidoarjo, could not hold back his tears when his house was being renovated.

"My house is in a leaky condition. Alhamdulillah, I am grateful and feel lucky to be chosen as the winner. Thank you Semen Tiga Roda, hopefully I can live in this house with my children," said Susi with tears in her eyes.

Susi also told her son, Arjuna (23) who is now continuing his late father's profession as a builder.

The realization of this national-scale social program is also supported by collaboration between Semen Tiga Roda and Indocement business partners. This synergy ensures that the renovation process runs smoothly with the same quality standards at all construction sites.

Semen Tiga Roda Director, Troy D. Soputro, emphasized that this program is a form of appreciation for the company's role in building the national construction.

"This is our way of saying thank you to the Indonesian construction heroes, namely the builders. We want to realize their hopes to be able to feel the comfort of living in their own homes, after years of building houses for others," said Troy.

The Bangun Rumah Tukangku program is expected to be a breath of fresh air for the empowerment of informal sector workers in Indonesia.

Efforts to provide decent housing for construction workers not only have an impact on the physical improvement of houses, but also increase the dignity and welfare of their families as an important part of national development.
