The perpetrator of the stabbing in Denpasar was sentenced to 2 years and 3 months in prison.

DENPASAR - The Denpasar District Court, Bali, sentenced Gede Sumerdana (31), a stabbing perpetrator in Denpasar, to two years and three months in prison for being proven to have committed severe abuse against a victim.

"To judge and impose a sentence on the defendant I Gede Sumerdanad with a sentence of two years and three months in prison, reduced by the period of arrest and detention that the defendant has already served," said the Syahbuddindin panel of judges in a trial at the Denpasar District Court, Bali, Thursday, February 5.

In the ruling, the panel of judges stated that the defendant had been proven legally and convincingly guilty of committing the crime as charged by the Public Prosecutor.

This act violates Article 468 paragraph (1) of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.

The sentence given by the judge is higher than the demand of the Public Prosecutor of the Denpasar District Attorney's Office, Oka Bishmaning, who demanded the defendant to be imprisoned for two years.

Based on the verdict, the defendant stated that he accepted it.

Likewise, the JPU did not appeal against the verdict.

In the previous indictment of the JPU, it was revealed that Gede Sumerdana stabbed a car driver, I Dewa Komang Agung Bimantara.

JPU Oka Bishmaning charged the man from Jalan Imam Bonjol, West Denpasar, with the first charge of attempted to take the life of another person. "The defendant's actions are regulated and threatened with imprisonment in Article 338 Jo. Article 53," said the JPU.

In addition, the second indictment regarding "Intentionally seriously injuring another person" as regulated and threatened in Article 354 of the Criminal Code.

As reported by ANTARA, this incident began when the defendant was going to take his wife, initials NLRS, who was sick in the stomach to Kasih Ibu Hospital on Jalan Teuku Umar, Tuesday (15/7) around 09.00 Wita.

He asked the witness with the initials KA to help him by using a white Toyota Avanza car.

When passing through Jalan Imam Bonjol, which was in a state of congestion, the train tried to overtake through the left lane. However, the black Honda Jazz car with the license plate DK 1**6 FAQ driven by the victim did not give way.

As a result, there was a glass-to-glass collision.

Then, the victim lowered the car window and said to the witness KA "Yuk aduang, yuk aduang (Let's compete, let's compete)".

This problem triggered a response from the defendant "Rage ngajak anak sakit ne, kel ngatehang ke rumah sakit (I sent this sick person, I want to take him to the hospital)".

The victim again answered "Then turn on the hazard lights, so that it is considered an emergency with others".

Next, the car the defendant was riding in could enter the left lane and drive back.

However, when they arrived at the Imam Bonjol-Gunung Soputan Road Junction, the traffic lights showed red, so they stopped.

Unexpectedly, Sumerdana got out of the car and approached the victim's vehicle.

He challenged the victim "Mai duel (let's duel)", even took out a dagger knife with a handle and a green sheath.

Then, the sharp weapon was used to stab the victim's left chest once.

Furthermore, the KA pulled the defendant back to the car and left the crime scene. Meanwhile, the victim who was weak due to the blood still flowing from his chest still tried to drive his car and stopped at the police post near the location to ask for help, until he could be taken to the hospital.

Based on the Visa Et Repertum Letter issued by the RSUP Prof Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah, dated July 21, 2025, which was made by dr. Ida Bagus Putu Alit Sp.F.M., Subsp, FK (K) DFM, on the victim was found to have open wounds due to sharp violence from the picture according to the stabbing wound.

It was also found that blood was collected in the right chest cavity and signs of decreased blood pressure. The wound was life-threatening for the victim. So, the victim's chest had to be stitched and hospitalized for five days, as well as outpatient care.
