JAKARTA - US forces are preparing to completely abandon the Al-Shaddadi base in Al-Hasakah Province, northeast Syria, in the next 24 hours.

Syria TV, citing sources familiar with the situation, on Wednesday (4/2) reported that the US-led international anti-terror coalition had also begun withdrawing its forces from the Khrab al-Jir base, located in the northeast of Al-Hasakah Province.

As reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, the Khrab al-Jir base, which is close to the Iraqi border, was previously used for the exit-entry route of all equipment intended for US forces in Syria, as well as for grain-carrying trucks and fuel tanks crossing the border.

Initially, the location was an airport for agricultural products, which was later converted by US forces into a military air base in 2016.

Previously on Sunday (1/2), the Syrian newspaper Al-Watan reported that the international coalition was moving equipment from the Khrab al-Jir base to Iraqi territory.

At the end of January, Syrian media reported that Syrian authorities had reached an understanding with the leadership of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) regarding the deployment of internal security forces to major cities in the Al-Hasakah and Raqqa provinces in northeastern Syria, as well as the implementation of a full ceasefire along the contact line.

In return, the SDF said its leadership had agreed to a comprehensive ceasefire with Damascus. The forces also agreed to withdraw Syrian troops from the contact line as an initial step towards military and administrative integration in Al-Hasakah Province.

Clashes between Kurdish forces and Syrian soldiers broke out again last month on the outskirts of Ashrafiyeh and Sheikh Maqsoud in Aleppo, shortly after a ceasefire was reached.

Kurdish rebels said Syrian soldiers had surrounded Kurdish neighborhoods and were preparing to launch an attack using tanks. Meanwhile, Damascus accused the SDF of firing on the evacuation corridor.

On January 18, Syrian President Ahmed Sharaa and SDF leader Mazloum Abdi signed a new immediate ceasefire after weeks of fierce fighting in Aleppo and other areas of northern Syria.

After further negotiations involving international mediators, the Syrian military on January 24 announced an extension of the ceasefire along the entire contact line with the SDF for 15 days, after the previous four-day ceasefire ended.

Despite the agreement, the SDF command again accused the Syrian army of attempting to launch a large-scale offensive against Kobani with the support of Turkish artillery and drones.
