JAKARTA - The Head of the Post-disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Task Force for Sumatra, Tito Karnavian, inaugurated the construction of 1,300 temporary housing units (huntara) in eight districts and cities affected by disasters in Sumatra on Thursday.
Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian said the inauguration of the temporary residence was carried out on behalf of President Prabowo Subianto as part of efforts to accelerate post-disaster community recovery.
The 1,300 temporary housing units are spread across South Tapanuli Regency (250 units), North Tapanuli (40 units), and Central Tapanuli (112 units) in North Sumatra, then Aceh Tamiang Aceh (58 units), East Aceh Aceh (308 units), North Aceh Aceh (84 units), and Pidie Jaya (410 units), as well as Tanah Datar in West Sumatra (38 units).
Tito explained that temporary housing is intended for residents whose houses are severely damaged or lost, so that they can no longer be occupied in the near future.
According to him, the provision of temporary housing is part of the basic protection scheme so that residents do not stay in the evacuation tent for too long.
The central government targets the construction of temporary housing to reduce health and social risks due to prolonged displacement.
